Since the closure of the Museum in mid-March, due to the Covid-19 emergency, our engineers have not been relaxing at home tending the garden or watching daytime TV. Greg Walker, an engineer in the Museum’s Special Projects Team, has been producing for the NHS visor headbands using two 3-D printers.
Greg has now produced close to 400 headbands (35 a day) using two printers, one of which is the Museum’s, working 24 hours a day. Each headband has the name ‘Tangmere’ printed on it. Half the number have been dispatched to the Royal Gwent Hospital, near Newport South Wales and the other half to 3-D Crowd.UK, a central distributing organisation. Greg is now also looking into distributing the headbands to local hospitals.
