The Royal Mail chose the Museum as the Southern launch venue for its new range of postage stamps commemorating RAF uniforms. The set of 6 stamps – three first class and three 81p stamps – show a selection of uniforms covering the period from the RAF’s start in 1918 to the current day. Museum Chairman Gp Capt David Baron OBE is shown holding a picture of the stamp depicting the flying uniform of a Hunter pilot in the 50s and 60s, exactly the same uniform David wore as a Hunter pilot early in his career. These stamps went on sale on September 18th.
The Tangmere Museum has 3 computer-controlled Flight Simulators for visitors to ‘fly’.
