On Thursday 29 November the Museum was delighted to receive a visit from former Royal Marine and presenter of Channel 4’s excellent series, ‘Flying Across Britain with Arthur Williams’.
After a tour of the Museum, Arthur spent 30 minutes flying our English Electric Lightning simulator. With a maximum speed of Mach 2 (1500mph) the trip was in contrast to Arthur’s beautiful Piper Cub which has a maximum speed of 90mph. In fact the landing speed of the Lightning is almost twice the Piper Cub’s maximum speed.
As expected of such an accomplished pilot, Arthur rattled a few (simulated) windows along the south coast before making a text book landing back at RAF Tangmere.
